Greetings from the Lahti Pride 2019 team – A big thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered and performed as well as to our partners!
The fifth Lahti Pride festival was held 15th May–26th May 2019. The festival boasted 17 separate events which attracted 1023 visitors. The range of events was wide. The program consisted of family yoga, a “Pride of being yourself” evening for young people, a tattoo event, a vintage fashion extravaganza, storytime for kids, a writing workshop, a training course for professionals and a meeting over coffee with decision-makers, among others – and of course the Pride parade itself plus the related day time events and the club party.
Approximately 400 festival-goers took part in the Pride parade and we smashed the previous attendance record once again. The parade as well as the rainbow flags flown from Friday to Sunday sent a clear message that in Lahti you are accepted for who you are. The event brought attention to the diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. The event also made it possible for people to take part, celebrate and meet each other.
The festival was organised, yet again, solely by volunteers. In addition to a core team of three approximately 40 volunteers contributed to making the festival a reality. Local companies and organisations were also involved, and collaboration with them was an extremely important part of the success of the Pride festival. Thank you again to everyone who took part!
